The Rancho San Rafael Dog Park has finally re-opened after nearly a year of being closed. The popular dog park has been used by Reno and Sparks locals for the past decade, but last year officials shut it down due to extreme drought conditions. People were very upset, but more importantly, our four legged friends got the short end of the stick(pun intended).
The park was re-opened to the public last week and has since been flooded with crazy pooches looking to release their built up energy from the winter. Reno residents Mike Nelms and Cara Argall brought their very agile Border Collies, Kona and Levi, to enjoy the freshly grown grass and endless ball chasing. Many other residents and their dogs are relieved that the park is open again.
"We are so happy it's finally back open, It's about damn time!", said Sam with his beagle, Benji.
Since it's reopening, the park has healed due to our increase in water from a very wet winter. The park is fed by Highland Ditch, which is fed by the Truckee River.
If you haven't been to the dog park since it's re-opened, go check it out! Your best friend will thank you!
